Why is it called Black Friday

Ever wonder why this day after Thanksgiving is called Black Friday? There are several theories that are floating around out there but probably the most popular one is related to how businesses used to keep their record books many years ago. Accounts were written in a book and in this book any losses was printed in red while profits were annotated in black. It is from this that the term Black Friday comes about it is the day in which many of the huge retail stores as well as small stores mark down many of its items with lower prices and discounts in hopes of beginning a profitable sales season that will run right through the Christmas holidays.

Black Friday ads usually begin popping up in early November and some in the last week of October. In recent years the crowds that show up for the different discounts that are available on this day have become increasingly larger. In fact there have been some instances where groups of people have camped out on the perimeter of a particular store waiting for the doors to open in order to capture the discounted prices that are being advertised. This year it is expected that on this day  more than 80 million Americans headed to the stores on Friday, November 26 to take part in the Black Friday ads that will be available.

The day within itself is not a federal holiday or a local or city holiday. However many people will attempt to have his day off of work in order to take part in the sales that will be available. You have to ask yourself though is it really worth the crowds and the hassle to be in the stores on this particular day? This really depends on what it is that you're looking for and if there is a deal on that particular item. It is not unusual to find markdown discounts ranging anywhere from 25 to 50 percent or more. During this time of year there are many of the ads will be on electronics and televisions, especially big screen TVs such as LCDs and plasmas, and these discounted items are well worth the time spent in line for the lower prices.

Unfortunately there have been incidents of crowds becoming very dangerous when trying to be the first person in the store on this popular shopping day. In fact some shoppers have been trampled, shoved, pushed and even fistfights have broken out, all over trying to be the first one to take advantage of discounted ads. It is easy to get caught up in a whirlwind of shopping during the holiday season and when shoppers see lower prices advertised they want to be first to take advantage of them.

There is a websites you can visit that will give you access to all of the ads for 2010 in advance, this way you will know which stores have the best discounted prices and prepare yourself accordingly. It is the hope of most businesses to be able to boost their sales significantly during the holiday season from Thanksgiving thru Christmas. This discounted day after Thanksgiving is a great opportunity for shoppers to get good quality items at discounted prices and has become a popular tradition every November.
